The incident happened at around 11 am on Sunday 6 December.
Highways England said:
‘The M1 Southbound is being closed at J29 due to an overturned trailer and diesel spillage.
‘Traffic is being diverted over the junction from the exit slip and rejoining the Motorway via the entry slip.
‘Southbound closure. Specialist recovery is en route ro remove the tank which contains around 950 litres of diesel.’
