Traffic in the area is advised to avoid the incident and find another route.
Highways England said:
‘M1 southbound between the slips at J24 has three lanes closed after a multiple vehicle collision and fire.
‘Please plan for long delays in the area and use an alternate route when travelling if possible. Thank you for your patience.
AA Roadwatch reports:
‘Main roadway closed and queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident on M1 Southbound at J24 A453 Ashby Road (Nottingham South / East Midlands Airport).
‘Congestion to halfway between juctions 25 and 24 and on the A50 and A453 heading towards the M1.’
UPDATE – #M1 closed southbound at J24, traffic can exit the motorway and re-enter at that junction. Access to the #M1 southbound from the #A50 is stopped.
