Three lanes out of four are closed.
Update 9 am: – Lanes 2 & 3 have been reopened on the M1 south between J17 and J16 following a vehicle fire. Lane 1 remains closed due to an oil leak from the vehicle that has run into lane 1. There is currently 6 miles of congestion with delays of 50 mins above normal travel time.
National Highways said:
‘Lanes 1, 2 and 3 (of 4) are closed on the #M1 southbound between J17 (M45) and J16 (Northampton) due to a vehicle fire.
‘Fire service are on scene and dealing.
‘Traffic Officers are also on scene. There are 6 miles of congestion causing 40 min delays above normal travel time.
AA Roadwatch:
‘Three lanes closed, queueing traffic and delays of 40 minutes due to car fire on M1 Southbound from J17 M45 (Dunchurch / Coventry) to J16 A4500 (Daventry). Congestion to J18 (Rugby). Lanes one, two and three (of four) are closed.’
