National Highways said:
‘Traffic caught within the closure of the M1 southbound between J29 and J28 continues to be turned via the rear of the queue as shown below. We’re also hoping to get 1 lane open past the scene of the fire for trapped traffic to pass.’
A coach has caught fire on the M1 southbound in Derbyshire resulting in a full closure in both directions between J28 (near Mansfield/Matlock) and J29 ( Mansfield north).
National Highways have deployed resources to assist with traffic management.
Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the hollow black triangle diversion symbol on road signs and follow the below diversion:
- Leave the M1 at J28 onto the A38 eastbound towards Mansfield.
- Follow the A38 for approximately 4.6 miles and then take the A6075 towards Mansfield.
- Continue on the A6075 until it links up with the A617.
- At the junction turn left onto the A617 and follow the road to the M1 J29 and rejoin the M1 northbound to continue your journey.
Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the hollow black square symbol on road signs and follow the below diversion:
- Leave the M1 at J29 and exit onto the A617 and continue eastbound for just under 5 miles.
- At the junction with the A6075 turn right onto the A6075 towards Mansfield.
- Follow the A6075 until it links up with the A38.
- Continue on the A38 westbound to the M1 J28 and rejoin the M1 southbound to continue your journey.
Please allow plenty of extra time if travelling in the area this afternoon and use alternative routes if possible.
