Live updates: M1 southbound J20 closed after HGV hits barrier and is left hanging over A14

The M1 is closed southbound between J20 (Lutterworth) and J19 (A14-Catthorpe Interchange).

Thanks for your patience throughout this incident. All closures have been lifted on the #M6 southbound onto the #A14 eastbound and the #M1 southbound between J20 to J19.

Delays are clearing rapidly.

The M1 is closed southbound between J20 (Lutterworth) and J19 (A14-Catthorpe Interchange) following a collision in which a HGV struck a near side bridge barrier and came to rest hanging over the A14.

The vehicle has been recovered and clean up works are ongoing. Complex barrier repairs will now take place at scene however these are likely to be protracted and the closure is expected to remain in place till late afternoon/early evening.

Diversion Route:

Road users are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs:

Exit the M1 at Junction 20 and take the 3rd exit onto the A4303.
Continue on the A4303 for 0.5km to the A4303/A426 Rugby Road/Lutterworth Road roundabout.
At the roundabout take the second exit west(straight ahead) and continue westbound along the A4303 passing through a further two roundabouts at Coventry Road and Magna Park to A5/A4303 Cross in Hand Roundabout.
At the roundabout take the first exit (left) onto the A5 south.
Continue along the A5 southbound for approximately 4 kms to the A5/A426 Gibbets Hill Roundabout.

At Gibbet Hill Roundabout take the second exit (straight ahead) and continue for approximately 9kms along the A5 southbound to the A5 Danesway roundabout.
At the roundabout take the second exit(south) and continue on the A5 for a further 1km to the A5/ A428 Parklands roundabout.

Then take the second exit road off the roundabout onto the A428.
Continue along the A428 to the M1 Junction 18 interchange and rejoin the M1 southbound.
There are currently 30 min delays above normal travel time with 3 miles of congestion on approach to the M1 J20

The A14 westbound onto the M6 northbound and the M6 southbound onto the A14 eastbound are closed following a collision on the M1 southbound within J19.

The A14 westbound onto the M6 northbound and the M6 southbound onto the A14 eastbound are closed following a collision on the M1 southbound within J19.

A HGV has struck a bridge barrier on the M1 and is now hanging over the A14 carriageway.

The HGV has now been recovered and emergency barrier and road surface repairs are underway.

Diversion Routes:

A14 westbound diversion:

Traffic is being diverted onto the M1 northbound to then follow local diversion route from J20

A14 eastbound diversion:

Traffic from M1 Southbound
Instead of exiting the M1 at M1 Junction 19 Catthorpe continue southbound along the M1 passing M1 Junctions 18, 17, 16, 15a to Junction 15 a distance
approximately of 33 kilometres.
At M1 J15 take the A45 north/eastbound to A45/A14 Junction 13 Thrapston Interchange a distance approximately of 39kms.

Traffic from M6 South/eastbound
Instead of exiting the M6 south/eastbound at M1 Junction 19 Catthorpe, keep in the LHS lane and exit the M6 using the LHS free flow lanes(M6-M1 Link) that
crosses over the M1 at Junction 19 and merges into the M1 southbound a distance of approximately 4kms.
Continue along the M1 southbound as described above.

The incident is a collision in which a HGV has struck a near side barrier and come to rest hanging over the A14.

The M1 is closed southbound between J20 (Lutterworth) and J19 (A14-Catthorpe Interchange) following a collision in which a HGV has struck a near side bridge barrier and come to rest hanging over the A14.

All emergency services and recovery contractors are working at the scene at this time.

Traffic Officers and service providers are installing strategic closures and the diversion routes.
