M1 southbound J23 – Lanes closed and long delays after collision

Lanes 2 and 3 (of 3) are closed on the M1 northbound between J23 (Shepshed) and J23A (A42) due to a collision.

There are long delays on the M1 due to a collision that was reported to National Highways at 3:22 pm Thursday 7 September.

Lanes 2 and 3 are closed while emergency services continue to work at the scene. Traffic is flowing through lane 1 with delays of 90 minutes on approach.

Diversion Routes 

Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the solid diamond diversion symbol visible on local road signs

• Exit the M1 northbound at Junction 23 and take the first exit onto the A512 west.
• Continue westbound for approximately 13km passing through the A512/B591 Ashby Road East/Ingleberry Road/Leicester Road Junction, Ashby Road West/ Charnwood Road Junctions in Shepshed through to the A42 Junction 13 at Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
• At A42 Junction 13 take the fifth exit from the Interchange onto the A42 Northbound.
• Continue northbound along the A42 for approximately 14km and take the free flow lane back onto the M1 northbound.
