National Highways confirm that the M1 has reopened southbound from J28.
The motorway was closed between junctions 28 and 27 this morning after a serious collision involving a lorry, which overturned, cars and a van.
Delays of up to 90 minutes were caused by the incident – there are still residual delays in the area as traffic normalises again.
Derbyshire Police released these images of the incident:
‘M1 Southbound J28 to J27.
‘Serious collision this morning.
‘Rescue work completed by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services, East Midlands Ambulance Service, HeliMed and Nottinghamshire Police.
Serious but not life changing/threatening injuries.
‘Recovery and clean up now in progress. Expect delays.
