Major Incident declared in Nottinghamshire because of rising river levels

Due to the anticipated widespread impact of the rising river levels along the River Trent and due to the flood alerts in place across the county, Nottinghamshire and Nottingham Local Resilience Forum have declared a Major Incident.

Record river levels on the River Derwent are likely to lead to further peaks in water levels along the Trent Valley over the next 24 to 48 hours causing further risk of flooding in communities along the Trent Valley.  This will likely lead to risk of flooding to properties and roads. A map of the flood areas can be accessed here

People who live in the flood risk areas should take all precautions in case they need to evacuate their homes. Councils, emergency services and the Environment Agency have been providing emergency support to communities impacted and will continue to provide support across the county.

Please help emergency services by following the advice below:

  • Only travel if necessary in the flood areas.
  • Don’t ignore a flood warning or a road closure sign
  • Do not to enter flood water in case of hidden hazards such as lifted manhole covers.
  • River flooding is very likely so stay away from swollen rivers.
