At the end of June, a significant programme of works will be undertaken by Via East Midlands around the junction of the A60 Loughborough Road, Radcliffe Road and Bridgford Road.
These works will see a full refurbishment of traffic signals at the junction utilising extra-low voltage and LED technology, as well as replacement of lamp columns and installation of the latest LED street light technology.
Resurfacing of the southbound carriageway of the A60 Loughborough Road between the Trent Bridge Inn and Wilford Lane junction will also take place.
The works are due to start on Sunday 23rd June and will last for approximately two months. Disruption will be kept to a minimum with traffic flows monitored throughout the works. Temporary signals will be in operation and will work the same way in which the permanent ones do now, with CCTV in operation allowing the junction to be monitored and timings to be altered if necessary.
There will be lane closures off-peak to allow safe working areas for operatives, but all lanes should be open during peak hours.
Pedestrians walking routes and crossings will be affected, with signs in place to direct pedestrians to the nearest safe crossing.
The resurfacing works will be taking place overnight with a full closure of the southbound Loughborough Road. These works start on Monday 15th July for up to four weeks, during which residents can expect additional noise from the works. The closure will begin at 19:00 and remain in place up to 05:00 until the programme works each night are completed. There will be no closures in place for evenings where T20 Blast Cricket fixtures are taking place at Trent Bridge.
A signed diversion will be in-place via the A606, A52 and A6011.
The works have been planned at this time of year to take advantage of the lower traffic levels expected during the summer school holidays, following the conclusion of the Cricket World cup and also to take place outside of the football season.
In addition, by combining the schemes, Via has been able to minimise the impact on members of the public, negating the need for additional future works and associated closures.
Neil Hodgson, on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council said:
“An extensive programme of much needed improvement works will be taking place at the major A60 Loughborough Road, Radcliffe Road, Bridgford Road junction this summer, by Trent Bridge.
“This is a key junction in the county and through close coordination and careful planning we have been able to minimise any potential disruption to road users.
“We have timed the works to avoid major events in the sporting calendar and to take advantage of the lower traffic levels across the summer holidays.
“By combining works and keeping any lane and road closures out of peak hours, we’re confident that the impact of the works will be minimal, whilst the long term benefits will be enjoyed by all for years to come.”
