There are severe delays around the site of Download Festival.
AA Roadwatch reports 7 June 11:50 am:
‘Severe delays and queueing traffic due to people arriving at Download Festival on A453 Walton Hill both ways around Donnington Park.
‘Congestion to surrounding routes including through Melbourne, Diseworth, the A50 and the A42.’
East Midlands Airport (EMA) is encouraging passengers to allow plenty of time for their journeys to and from the airport during the Download Festival which runs from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 June.
While access to the airport from the M1 is largely unaffected, other local routes, particularly if approaching from east of the airport, will be busy.
Airport users can check the latest traffic updates before they set off on East Midlands Airport’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
Donington Park, which is the Festival site, is located next to East Midlands Airport, four miles west of junction 23a of the M1 and five miles from junction 24.
Warnings of traffic disruption are being displayed by National Highways on electronic message boards while extra traffic officers will also be deployed at key road junctions for the duration of the festival.
