Police investigating reports of a disturbance in which a man came armed with weapons have made an arrest.
Officers were called to Outram Street, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, at 1.10pm yesterday (18 December) following reports a man had got out of a car and approached two people while holding a hammer and a golf club.
He allegedly struck a man in the shins with the golf club before raising the hammer above a woman’s head and threatening to strike her with it.
Members of the public called 999 and the suspect quickly left the scene. He later handed himself in and was arrested on suspicion of affray.
Detective Sergeant Matt Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an incident involving a number of people who were known to each other and while it is always concerning for local residents when disturbances happen in the street, we believe this to be a self-contained incident with no wider threat to the public and a man is in custody.
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet come forward, or anyone who has video footage, to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 373 of 18 December 2021.”
