“Dogs, response teams and the force’s drones unit were deployed following reports of a man making threats with a knife.

“A 29-year-old suspect was safely detained near the Old Market Square.

“Incidents such as this are thankfully rare but understandably concerning, however, officers were on the scene extremely quickly and resolved the incident safely.

“I would like to pass my personal thanks to the member of the public who called in to inform us of the incident and I would urge anyone who is concerned that someone may be carrying a weapon of any type to contact the force in confidence at any time.”
