Dogs and drones deployed to arrest man brandishing a knife in Nottingham city centre

A man has been arrested after a caller reported seeing someone brandishing a knife in Nottingham city centre.

Numerous police units were deployed to Pelham Street at 12.30pm today (9 August).

The suspect was quickly located and arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in public.

He has been taken into custody for questioning.

Inspector John Lees, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Members of the public may have seen a large police response earlier today.

“Dogs, response teams and the force’s drones unit were deployed following reports of a man making threats with a knife.

“A 29-year-old suspect was safely detained near the Old Market Square.

“Incidents such as this are thankfully rare but understandably concerning, however, officers were on the scene extremely quickly and resolved the incident safely.

“I would like to pass my personal thanks to the member of the public who called in to inform us of the incident and I would urge anyone who is concerned that someone may be carrying a weapon of any type to contact the force in confidence at any time.”
