Nottinghamshire Police officers arrested a suspect within minutes of a report of a man carrying a blade.
Officers detained a man in St James’s Street in Nottingham city centre, at around 12.15am yesterday (Sunday 16 January 2022) over allegations he had been carrying a knife.
Searches were carried out and a knife was recovered.
A 31-year-old man from Netherfield, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday 17 January 2022) charged with possession of a knife in a public place.
Detective Sergeant Robert Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This positive action is the latest example of the force’s constant drive to reduce knife crime and protect people from harm in our communities.
“Our message to those who carry a knife, or who are thinking of carrying one, is that it does not protect you. It only increases your vulnerability, putting you in dangerous situations, not to mention the legal consequences of being found in possession of a knife.
“Every blade we seize is one less dangerous weapon that can be used to cause serious harm or injury – potentially resulting in someone’s life being lost.
“We all need to work together to combat knife crime and we’re urging anyone with information on knife crime in their local community to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, always dial 999.”
