A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman suffered serious injuries.
The victim was taken to hospital with injuries to her stomach following an incident in Bowbridge Road, Newark at 10.45am this morning.
It is believed those involved are known to each other.
Detective sergeant Neil Allsop, of Nottinghamshire’s police public protection unit, said: “We were contacted this morning by our colleagues at the East Midlands Ambulance Service and, less than 15 minutes later, a man had handed himself in to Newark police station.
“He remains in custody while we investigate the full circumstances connected to this case.
“The woman is being treated in hospital where her injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening or altering.
“We will be supporting her and making sure she gets access to any help she may need going forward.
“For reassurance purposes residents can expect to see an increased police presence as the Newark neighbourhood team step up patrols in the area and people are encouraged to talk to them if they have any concerns at all.
“If anyone saw what happened or has any information that could help with our investigation, please call us.”
