Man charged after PCSO assaulted in Clifton

A 39-year-old man has been charged after a police community support officer (PCSO) was assaulted.

The officer suffered a cut lip during the incident in Southchurch Drive, Clifton, on Monday (5 September 2022).

It happened after officers spotted a suspect who was wanted in relation to a series of shop thefts and went to arrest him.

Stuart Askey, of Clarewood Grove, Clifton, has been charged with three counts of theft and assaulting an emergency worker.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today.

Chief Inspector Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thankfully, the PCSO was not seriously injured in this incident but I do not expect my officers, or any emergency worker, to be assaulted simply for doing their job.

“We will not hesitate to take action against those suspected of assaulting an emergency worker and those found guilty could face a significant prison sentence.”
