Man charged after police pursuit in Nottingham

A man has been charged with several offences after a vehicle failed to stop for police.

Officers on patrol in Bilborough spotted the blue Vauxhall Astra at around 9.40 am on Friday (15 March).

The driver appeared to become anxious after making eye contact with officers inside a police vehicle as he drove along Strelley Road.

The officers followed the car for a short distance, prompting it to speed up before turning left into Helston Drive.

He pulled over after the officers activated their blue lights and sirens – but when the officers approached the driver’s window, he sped off again.

Seconds later, the officers found the blue Vauxhall Astra abandoned in Wyrale Drive and a suspect was located and arrested nearby.

Evan Pidgeon, of no fixed address, has been charged with failing to stop when directed by a police constable, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

The 35-year-old appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (16 March) and was bailed with conditions ahead of his next appearance at the same court on 24 June 2024.

PC Dan Bird, who made the arrest, said:

“This was a great example of why we carry out mobile patrols within the community.

“By deciding to follow a suspect vehicle, we were ultimately able to bring multiple charges against a disqualified driver.

“We will always target drivers who should not be on the roads in order to keep the public safe.”
