Teenager charged following street fight in Sutton

An 18-year-old man has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon following a fight between two people.

Officers were called to Bainbridge Terrace, Sutton-in-Ashfield at 7.40pm yesterday following reports of a conflict, and a man was swiftly arrested at the scene.

No one was injured.

The man from Stanton Hill was remanded in custody to appear Nottingham Magistrates’ Court later today.

Sergeant Lee Mulligan said: “People carrying weapons is a serious offence and we will always provide an instant response.

“We are dedicated to combatting knife crime, and taking weapons off the street is a top priority. We have two dedicated knife crime teams in the city and county, we work closely with our partners as well as Operation Reacher to put a stop to these crimes.”

The latest report from the Office for National Statistics out last week has shown that the preventive work under taken by the force has seen knife crime fall by 15 per cent over the last year.
