Man charged with assaulting two police officers in The Meadows

A 35-year-old man is due to appear before magistrates in Nottingham tomorrow charged with assaulting two police officers.

The officers were hurt whilst making an arrest in connection with an assault.

One suffered a one-inch gash to his forehead which needed to be glued after being struck with a handcuff whilst trying to put it on the suspect.

The other officer was left dazed after being struck to the head in the incident in Beardsley Gardens, The Meadows, at around 3.20 am today (Sunday 7 June).

The man has been charged with two offences of assault by beating of a police officer, assault by beating, criminal damage and possession of cannabis and will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court in the morning.

Chief Inspector Kathryn Craner, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Assaults on police officers are completely unacceptable. Police officers have a duty to protect the public and anyone who hurts an officer whilst they are trying to keep people safe deserves to be put before the courts.”
