A man has been charged with attempted rape following an incident in Nottingham’s Old Market Square late on Saturday afternoon.
Nottinghamshire Police were on-the-scene within minutes to make an arrest following the incident, which was reported just before 5.20pm on Saturday 2 May after concerned members of the public intervened in the assault.
Detective Inspector Stuart Temple from Nottinghamshire Police said: “Attacks of this nature that are committed in broad daylight are absolutely extraordinary and we know the level of concern that news of this incident will naturally cause for anyone living in and around our city.
“I would personally like to thank those members of the public who came to the woman’s aid and it is thanks to their help that our officers have been able to act as quickly as they have to make an arrest, protect the victim and put a man before the courts so soon after the incident.”
Lee John Hobster, 43, of no fixed address, has been remanded to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4 May after he was charged with attempted rape following the incident.
