Man charged with religiously aggravated assault after incident in Gamston

A man was allegedly attacked with a wooden stick before being threatened with a knife after a dispute with another man.

Police swiftly responded to the reported assault in Bassingfield Lane, Gamston, shortly before 5.45pm on Thursday 24 June and arrested a suspect.

The victim suffered cuts to his head but didn’t need medical treatment.

A 50-year-old man from Gamston, has been charged with religiously aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of a knife in a public place and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 25 June).

Police Constable Andrew Howat, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Weapon-enabled violence of any kind is completely unacceptable and we will do everything we can to protect victims and put suspects before the courts.

“We treat all reports of knife crime extremely seriously and the force works closely with its partners all-year-round to educate people about the dangers of carrying weapons.

“Our proactive preventative work is also ongoing to help steer people away from criminality and we are continuing with our relentless efforts to remove dangerous weapons from our streets and deal robustly with suspected knife crime offenders.
