A man who raped and assaulted a woman in Chilwell in August last year has received a 16-year-sentence.
Jan Babiak, 32, formerly of High Road, Chilwell, was found guilty of three counts of rape and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Leicester Crown Court heard that, on 21 August 2017, Babiak had raped the woman, kicked and punched her and urinated on her.
During his police interview Babiak claimed the woman had caused her injuries herself.
Babiak was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison plus a further four years on licence. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and made subject of a restraining order for life.
Babiak was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on 27 March 2018, having previously been found guilty of all charges by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court.
Speaking after Babiak was sentenced DC Shelley Christian said: “Babiak subjected the victim to a horrific ordeal. She has shown great strength and bravery throughout the case and subsequent trial after Babiak denied all the allegations.
“Babiak has shown no remorse throughout the case and will now have plenty of time to think about his actions in prison.”
