Man in hospital with serious facial injuries after city assault

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was seriously assaulted in the street.

Officers were called to Mansfield Road, Nottingham, at around 3.20am this morning (Saturday) following reports of an assault.

The victim, a man in his twenties, suffered significant facial injuries after he was assaulted with what are believed to be blunt weapons.

He remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Two men, aged 41 and 38, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remain in police custody.

Detectives investigating what happened would like to speak to anyone who witnessed or heard the assault, which happened near the junction of Fulforth Street.

They would particularly like to hear from any drivers who may have dashcam footage of the area at the time of the attack.

Detective Constable Alan Prentice, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a violent and sustained assault that left a young man in hospital with significant injuries.

“We are working hard to understand what happened here and would like to speak with any additional witnesses who saw or heard what happened”
