Man injured in his car by three people in Newark ‘hammer attack’

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after a man was injured in a hammer attack last night.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called to Eton Avenue at around 10.35pm last night after a man was assaulted in a car in the street.

It is thought the man had entered his car when a group of three people wearing dark hoodies are assaulted him with a hammer, causing minor injuries. The man was taken to hospital as a precaution, he has since been discharged.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or have footage to get in touch with Nottinghamshire Police as soon as possible.

Detective Sergeant Ricky Ellis, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Obviously this is a concerning incident and we are now working to establish the circumstances around the assault.

“We take all reports of violence very seriously and will investigate incidents thoroughly in order to take appropriate action against those found to be committing such offences.

“It is thought the men fled the scene in the direction of St Mary’s Gardens after the attack.

“We are currently investigating another incident that happened in Valley Prospect at 9.30pm where men were seen acting suspiciously in the street.
