A robber who was identified for a city centre bag snatch following a social media appeal has been jailed.
The victim was having a conversation outside a bar in Carlton Street, Nottingham, when Reece Hamid intentionally barged into him in order to grab his bag.
The victim was knocked to the floor before Hamid fled with the bag on 29 June 2024 at around 6:30 pm.
Detectives analysed CCTV footage of the incident as part of their investigation and released an image of the suspect on police media channels.
Hamid was identified as the offender, and he went on to plead guilty to robbery.
The 34-year-old, of Elgar Gardens, was jailed for 18 months at Nottingham Crown Court on 18 February.
Detective Constable Louise Turton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“We know street robberies like this can have an emotional impact on victims, which goes beyond any physical harm.
“Hamid took an opportunity to assault this man and steal his belongings while he was trying to enjoy a night out in the city.
“This sort of criminality has no place in our night-time economy and will always be met with a robust response from the force.
“The case also highlights again the value of media appeals, and we are grateful to any member of the public who takes the time to help us identify an offender.”
