A nuisance offender has been jailed after flouting a court order which banned him from large parts of Nottingham city centre.
John Chattin, aged 37, was handed a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in January.
Neighbourhood police secured the order to protect businesses and the public from Chattin after he was identified as a prolific offender.
Chattin, of no fixed abode, had frequently been arrested for offences including robbery, theft, assault and possession of Class A drugs.
Under the terms of the order, Chattin was prohibited from entering an exclusion area.
However, he was spotted by police in Cheapside around 11.30am on 7 September and arrested.
After appearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (10 September) Chattin was jailed for eight weeks.
Sergeant Elizabeth Johnson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“By ignoring the terms of the order placed upon him, Chattin showed a blatant disregard for the law.
“We worked hard to get the CBO imposed in the first place as we know Chattin’s behaviour has been a blight on the city centre due to his persistent offending and antisocial behaviour.
“I’m pleased the court has now imposed a custodial sentence on him and hope this provides some respite for those his offending has impacted upon.
“There is significant help and support offered to individuals before we take action to apply for these orders – but Chattin has refused to engage.
“I sincerely hope that he uses this latest spell in custody to change his behaviour. However, if he chooses not to we will keep locking him up.”
