Man jailed after punching and kicking woman and threatening her with a crossbow

A man who punched and kicked a frightened woman before pointing a crossbow at her home has been jailed.

Mark Love, aged 51, barged into his victim’s home in November 2021, dragged her across the floor before violently assaulting her.

His victim, a woman in her twenties, suffered black eyes and bruising during the assault at an address in Newark.

On 30 December Love was seen by frightened members of the public to take a crossbow out of his car boot and point it at his victim’s address.

Love, of Cleveland Square, Newark, was arrested shortly afterwards by police.

He later pleaded guilty to charges of affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday (21 March) he was jailed for 22 months.

Detective Constable Chantel Cowan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Love is a violent bully who launched a sustained attack on a woman who was unable to defend herself.

“To make matters even worse he then caused considerable alarm to other people when he wielded a lethal weapon in public.

“I am glad he has now been punished for his actions and hope this case also serves as a warning to other men who commit acts of violence against women. We take these offences extremely seriously and will do whatever we can to bring perpetrators to justice and safeguard victims.”
