A man has been jailed after police found a sawn-off shotgun when they searched his flat.
Officers carried out a search of Andre James’ one-bedroom property in Burford Road, Forest Fields, Nottingham, on 7 May 2023 after arresting him for unrelated matters.
They found a large duffle bag which was locked with a padlock in the bedroom area of the flat.
After locating a set of keys, officers opened the bag and discovered the firearm had been hidden inside it.
James, aged 40, of Burford Road, was jailed for a total of three years when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Monday (19 June).
He had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a shotgun when prohibited for life and possessing a shortened shotgun.
Detective Constable Caitlin Carnell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thankfully firearms offences are extremely rare in Nottinghamshire and that’s because we are very proactive about taking guns off people before they can be used to cause harm.
“In this instance, the vigilance of the officers who searched James’ flat resulted in a dangerous weapon being seized, taken off the streets and destroyed.”
