Man jailed after stabbing neighbour multiple times

A man has been jailed after attacking his former friend with a knife following a fall out over a debt.

Carlton Neuvill launched an assault on the victim in a stairwell at the block of flats in Nottingham where they lived, stabbing and punching him multiple times.

The victim was helped by neighbours before paramedics and police arrived at the scene in Norton Street, Radford, and he was taken to hospital.

The victim suffered four stab wounds during the attack on 22 January 2025 and required emergency surgery for his injuries, which will leave him with permanent scarring.

Officers arrested Neuvill a short time later and recovered the knife he had used in the attack, as well as two other blades, from his flat.

Detectives investigated the incident and were able to piece together what happened after conducting CCTV and other inquiries.

Neuvill, aged 55, of Norton Street, denied attempted murder but pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

At Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (20 June) he was jailed for seven-and-a-half years.

Detective Sergeant Hannah Frame, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Our investigation revealed Neuvill owed the victim money and after being asked repeatedly to pay back the debt he took the decision to launch this savage attack.

“He armed himself with a knife and paced around in the block of flats waiting for the man to come home from walking his dog.

“He then attacked the victim from behind as he got out of the lift.

“I have no doubt it will have been an extremely frightening experience and left the man with some painful and unpleasant injuries.

“As with any assault involving a knife the outcome could have been even more grave.

“The presence of knives has the potential to escalate a disagreement or disturbance into something even more serious.

“We know a number of people who live in these flats witnessed the incident and its aftermath so I hope they welcome our response and the thorough investigation which took place.”
