Man jailed after ‘sustained violent attack’ left woman in hospital

A sustained ‘violent attack’ left a victim with a broken nose and a cut to their hand that required stitches.

Wayne Shaw, 35, of Fritchley Street in Mansfield, was jailed after pleading guilty to the 30-minute assault that left a woman requiring hospital treatment.

Nottinghamshire Police was called to a house in Rainworth at around 3.30pm on Saturday 10 April 2021 after a woman had been injured in the attack.

Shaw was arrested at the scene and charged with grievous bodily harm in connection with the assault. Detectives found that the attack had also been in the presence of children.

He was jailed for a year and three months at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday 4 May after pleading guilty at a previous hearing.

Detective Constable Tracey Marshall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a sustained violent attack that left a victim with serious injuries.

“Thankfully, the woman is on her way to making a full recovery but that does not detract from the fact that this was a brutal incident.

“Shaw’s guilty plea shows he has remorse for his actions but it is testament to the detectives who worked on this case that he received a jail sentence.

“I hope Shaw uses the time in prison to reflect on his mindless violent actions.”
