Man jailed for 15 years after Nottingham city centre stabbing

A knife-carrier faces 15 years in jail after piercing a teenager’s heart with a blade in Nottingham city centre.

The victim had been out celebrating his birthday in the early hours of 17 November 2024 when his group were approached by Mohammed Ahmed-Altey and a friend.

Unbeknown to the then 17-year-old and his friends at the time, Ahmed-Altey had a knife in his possession.

Following a verbal confrontation, he pulled out the weapon and stabbed the teenager in the chest at Bridlesmith Gate, Nottingham.

Emergency services were called almost immediately after the incident and carried out life-saving treatment before the victim was transported to hospital.

A single stab wound to his heart left the teenager fighting for his life in the aftermath of the assault.

Ahmed-Altey fled the scene, but was quickly identified and arrested by officers the following day (18 November 2024).

Despite damning evidence against him, the 23-year-old continued to deny his involvement.

He would go on to be charged with wounding with intent and possessing a knife in a public place.

After a trial at Nottingham Crown Court on 15 August 2025, Ahmed-Altey was found guilty of both charges against him.

Ahmed-Altey, previously of Bath Street, Nottingham, was sentenced for 15 years appearing at the same court on Friday (10 October).

Detective Constable Addie Hart, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Mohammed Ahmed-Altey is a dangerous man who launched an attack on a teenager who was simply out celebrating his birthday.

“Had emergency services and hospital employees not acted so swiftly, there’s a high chance that the victim could’ve lost his life.

“Thankfully for everybody involved that was not the case.

“The victim has since recovered, but this attack has undoubtedly left a huge physical and emotional impact on him and his loved ones, including those who stayed by his side in the immediate aftermath.

“I hope this lengthy sentence can also act as a warning to those who think it’s acceptable to carry such dangerous weapons around with them.

“The chance of life-altering consequences like this are simply never worth the risk.”
