Man sentenced for ‘flashing’ offences in Nottingham

A repeat offender has faced the courts after exposing himself to members of the public.

David Keye was arrested following reports a man had pulled his trousers down and exposed his bottom in the Arboretum area.

The 54-year-old’s offending happened across North Sherwood Street and Addison Street between 27 February to 25 March.

Keye went on to plead guilty to four offences of outraging public decency.

As well as this, he faced four further charges of breaching a sexual harm prevention order previously imposed back in 2022 from a separate offence.

Appearing in Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday 11 November, Keye, of Mansfield Road, Nottingham, was handed an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Keye will be required to wear a monitoring tag for the next six months and attend a rehabilitation programme.

He must also participate in 80 hours of unpaid work.

PC Jordan Hinds, of the Arboretum neighbourhood policing team, said:

“We know that this type of offending is a concern for many residents in the local area, and we want to make it clear that we’ll always investigate reports and take action to clamp down on this behaviour.

“Alongside putting David Keye in front of the courts, we’ve increased our high-visibility patrols throughout the vicinity in a bid to deter crime and provide reassurance.

“Plain clothes operations are also in the works, allowing us to observe criminal activity undetected, gather intelligence, and catch offenders in the act.

“There’s also two refuge points located in the Forest Recreation Ground, and I’d urge anyone in need to contact our control room staff by pushing a button.

“Everyone has a right to feel safe when going about their daily business, and I would urge anyone who experiences this to get in touch with us.

“With this sentencing imposed, I hope Keye takes this time to reflect on his behaviour and change his ways.”
