Man spits at community protection officers and bites an officer’s leg in Nottingham

A man has been charged after assaulting four officers, including spitting at two of them and biting one of officer on the leg.

A CPO was on foot patrol in Meadows Way, Nottingham at around 9.30am on Wednesday (13 May 2020) when a group of men became aggressive and argumentative towards him.

The man deliberately spat in the direction of a Community Protection Officer (CPO) and officers were called to detain him.

He subsequently resisted arrest and assaulted the officers, biting one on the leg, scratching another on the hand and spitting at the third officer. He told officers he is Covid-19 positive.

Inspector Paul Hennessy of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It is simply unacceptable for our officers and fellow emergency workers who are serving on the front line and protecting our communities to be spat at or threatened.

“This type of appalling behaviour will not be tolerated and we will continue to take the strongest action possible against anyone who behaves in this way and place them before the courts at the earliest opportunity”

All the officers involved are fortunately uninjured.

James Thomson,37 of Sneinton Hermitage in Nottingham was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a number of officers and subsequently charged with the four assaults and has been remanded in custody to appear in court today (14 May 2020).
