Nottingham Man Who Stole £108,000 from his Mother Jailed

Nottingham man who stole around £108,000 from his mother who had dementia  has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Gary Dawson, 57, of Keverne Close appeared at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Monday 10 October 2016). He pleaded guilty to one count of theft and two counts of fraud.

The court heard how Dawson had been asked to look after his mother, Joyce Dawson’s, accounts in 2013. Joyce suffered from dementia at this time and passed away in December 2014.

It wasn’t until her death and when the last Will and Testament was issued that the extent of the crime was revealed.

PC Tony Wilson of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Gary Dawson pretended to be a caring and compassionate son looking after his elderly vulnerable mother but behind the façade he had planned to steal her life savings from her account and his families inheritance. This has been a long two-year investigation that has brought a sickening crime against a vulnerable elderly female to justice.”
