Detectives are appealing for a number of witnesses to an assault at the ASDA supermarket in Hyson Green to come forward to help officers with their enquiries – including one key witness who reported the assault to a nearby Community Protection Officer in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
Nottinghamshire Police was called just before 6.40 pm on Friday 14 February to the ASDA store in Radford Road, Hyson Green after a 27-year old man sustained a broken jaw as a result of a single punch to his face. He was taken to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment for his injuries.
Detectives have now launched an investigation into the assault and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Buxton from Nottinghamshire Police said: “This appears to be a particularly nasty and unprovoked assault which has left the victim with a suspected broken jaw and in a great deal of pain as a result of a single punch to his face.
“We are continuing to support the victim who has understandably been left very shaken by the assault and our attention can now turn to identify the person responsible for the assault.
“The incident happened in a busy supermarket on a Friday evening and we believe there will be a number of people who witnessed the assault who our officers have not yet spoken to.
“I would urge anyone with any information to come forward as soon as possible and I am particularly keen to speak to a woman who reported the incident to a uniformed Community Protection Officer before leaving the store.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 843 of 14 February.
