A Taser was used in the arrest of a man who allegedly assaulted a police officer last night.
Officers were called to Kirke Street in Retford at around 8.30pm to reports of a man damaging windows and doors at the entrance to a block of flats.
Nottinghamshire Police quickly deployed an officer to the scene and when he arrived, a man is alleged to acted in an aggressive manner towards the officer.
Further officers attended the scene and a Taser was successfully discharged to detain the man on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.
The 44-year-old man is alleged to have spat at officers after being arrested.
District Commander for Bassetlaw Neil Bellamy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officer safety is of paramount importance to Nottinghamshire Police and I am pleased that last night’s situation was resolved without any injuries to the man or officers.
“We take reports of criminal damage and threatening behaviour very seriously and will investigate any incident reported to us.
“In addition to this, we will not tolerate any form of abuse, either verbal for physical, that targets our officers and will look to take appropriate action against anyone who is proved to have assaulted an emergency worker.
“I would now encourage anyone with any information on the incident last night to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
