A man who assaulted and choked a woman before headbutting a police officer has been jailed.
Jordan McKnight, aged 23, launched the attack on his former partner at an address in Bestwood on 7 July this year – placing her in a headlock and restricting her breathing.
As officers worked to support the victim inside the address, McKnight was detained outside by a police dog handler.
He then became increasingly irate – making repeated threats to assault officers before headbutting one of them.
The victim later reported further assaults by McKnight – including an incident where he pinned her to the wall by her neck.
McKnight – also known as Tyler Bolt – claimed he was acting in self-defence after being assaulted by his victim.
He later pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of assault by beating, and one count of assaulting an emergency worker.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, McKnight, of no fixed address, was jailed for two-and-a-half years.
Sergeant Joanna Stanbridge, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“As McKnight has just discovered to his cost, intentionally restricting another person’s breathing in this way is an extremely serious offence in its own right.
“I am pleased he has now received a significant jail sentence and hope this conviction will provide some comfort to his victim and her family.”
