Man who attacked and robbed a man in East Leake jailed

A man who attacked a 51-year-old man in East Leake and stole his possessions has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Thomas Smith, 33, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday after pleading guilty to robbery.

Officers were called to The Burrows in East Leake on 1 August 2019 after a man was reported to have been assaulted by two men, who, after leaving him beaten in the street, stole his wallet and personal items.

Smith and his accomplice, Carl Powell, 34, who was sentenced to three years in prison on Monday 9 September 2019, were caught on CCTV using the stolen bank cards at a store in West Bridgford, making a number of purchases. A taxi was also paid for with the card.

Detective Constable Laura Whittingham, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Smith’s sentence shows that Nottinghamshire Police is committed to tackling violent crime.
