A man arrested following an incident in Sneinton yesterday morning, which caused a number of homes to be evacuated, has now been charged with nine offences.
Martin Herbert, 54, of Baden Powell Road, Sneinton, is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 9 April 2020), charged with four counts of threats to kill, two counts of common assault and further offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and criminal damage.
Police received an initial report of a woman being assaulted inside a property before she managed to escape.
A male suspect fled the property. Police carried out enquiries to try and locate the suspect who later returned to the property and barricaded himself in the cellar.
About 30 homes were evacuated as a precaution after a smell of gas was reported from the property and nearby roads were closed.
Specially trained negotiators engaged with the suspect who later left the property and was arrested.
A short time later residents were able to return to their homes after the property was made safe and roads were re-opened.
