Man who crashed car after burglary appears in court

A thief who stole and crashed a car after breaking into a house has appeared in court.

Officers were called at around 3.15am on Monday to an address in Stone Leigh Close, Mansfield, after thieves broke in and stole the keys.

Patrol cops spotted the car minutes later and a suspect was taken into custody shortly afterwards.

Several parked cars were damaged as the car reversed along Westfield Lane.

James Clarke, aged 41, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning (26 July) and pleaded guilty to burglary, driving with no insurance, aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.

Clarke, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court later this month.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Burglary and vehicle taking offences are extremely upsetting for victims and I am pleased this vehicle was tracked down and a suspect arrested so quickly.”
