Man who stole bikes from ROKO and West Bridgford School sentenced

Police in West Bridgford acted quickly to secure a conviction.

A man has appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court to face charges of three bike thefts and one attempted bike theft.

On Sunday 10th October 2021 Alwyn Hartley of no fixed abode walked into The West Bridgford School grounds on Loughborough Road and stole a student’s bike which was left unlocked within the pupil bike shelter.

He returned to the school first thing the following Monday morning, this time on a bike, and attempted to gain entry to the staff bike shelter, however was unsuccessful in his attempt and on this occasion left empty-handed.

Within an hour he had cycled on to ROKO Health Club on Wilford Lane, and removed the lock from a victim’s bike that was left secured to a metal bike rack outside the club.

He then rode off on the victim’s bike whilst pushing his own bike alongside.

Officers from the West Bridgford Neighbourhood Team collated all the evidence and early on Tuesday 12th October, Hartley was arrested for the offences.

In custody, he was further arrested for a previous bike theft in Nottingham city in September after being identified as the offender.

Hartley was subsequently charged and remanded for all offences of theft and at court received a 12 week sentence suspended for 12 months.
