A man whose assault left someone missing a piece of their ear has been jailed.
Mark Wagstaff, 46, launched an attack against two men in the early hours of 11 November 2023.
Wagstaff was first spotted throwing punches at the unsuspecting victims inside the Cheeky Monkey bar in Handley Arcade, Mansfield.
CCTV caught the incident then venturing out into the street, where Wagstaff dragged one of the men to the floor and took a chunk out of his ear.
The victim had to undergo surgery to repair his ear, and he also sustained injuries to the right side of his body.
The other man was left with bruising to his right eye socket.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on 8 May, Wagstaff, of Crampton Avenue, Mansfield, was jailed for a total of five years after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Detective Constable Natasha Crewe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Both victims were simply enjoying the night when they were faced with a vicious assault.
“The act of biting a person’s ear is a deliberate one and, in this case, has left the victim with a life-long disfigurement.
“We were, however, armed with plenty of witness accounts and CCTV footage, leading Wagstaff to face the courts to get the victims the justice they deserved.
“We hope this sentence sends out a very clear message to others who think they can behave in a similar way that they are severely mistaken.”
