Manslaughter charge after man dies following Nottingham assault

A suspect has appeared in court charged with manslaughter after a man died following an assault.

Officers were called to reports of a fight at the junction of Upper Parliament Street and Trinity Walk, in Nottingham city centre, on Saturday 5 March at around 3.35am.

The 26-year-old victim sadly died in hospital 12 days later (Thursday 17 March).

Kyle Turton, 21, who had previously been charged with causing grievous bodily harm, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday (6 April) where his original charge was replaced and he was charged with manslaughter.

Turton, of Brooksby Lane, Clifton, was remanded into custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court for trial on 19 September.

A further 17-year-old teenager has also been charged with affray.

The boy is next due to appear at Nottingham Youth Court on 13 April.

He has been bailed with conditions.

Detective Inspector Steve Wragg, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This has been an extremely detailed investigation.

“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends at this incredibly sad and difficult time.

“Officers are continuing to support his family while our investigation continues, so they are kept up to date and aware of what is happening.”
