An investigation into an attempted robbery and the theft of electric bikes has led to two arrests.
The two incidents were both linked to the illegal taking of Lime bikes from a storage unit in Radford.
Multiple people in balaclavas firstly managed to steal three of the e-bikes from the unit in Thoroton Place on 10 July.
The following week – on 14 July – one of the individuals believed to be involved in the theft returned on one of the bikes.
They then reportedly pulled out a knife and threatened a warehouse staff member with it, while demanding they hand over more of the pay-as-you-use public bikes.
When they were unsuccessful in their robbery attempt, the suspect reportedly got back on the bike they’d arrived on and rode away.
Nobody was injured during this incident.
Following extensive inquiries, police were today (29 July) able to track down and detain two suspects.
Two boys, both aged 13, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a pedal cycle, with one of them arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery too.
The same suspect was also arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop, after a tip jar was taken from a café in Park Street, The Park, on 30 June.
Detective Sergeant Frank Guddemi, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Each of these incidents were completely unacceptable, so we’re pleased to have made some arrests.
“Taking the attempted robbery first, this was an incredibly serious offence, especially when you consider the use of a knife as was reported.
“We will never tolerate this type of behaviour and will always take whatever action is necessary to detain anyone suspected of involvement.
“The same goes for anyone involved in the theft of items, whether that be a tip jar or the Lime bikes involved in these incidents.
“These e-bikes are used by people from across the community, so it’s wrong for anyone to feel like they can just steal them.”
