McDonald’s staff member and man at cash machine punched and robbed

Detectives investigating two robberies within four hours have charged a suspect.

It is alleged a man entered the McDonalds in Park Lane, Mansfield, assaulted a member of staff and then left after taking cash from the tills. It happened shortly after 8am on Thursday (17 March 2022).

Around four hours earlier, in Rosemary Street, Mansfield, a man was reportedly punched to the back of his head while withdrawing money from a cash machine and had his money and cash card stolen.

Police arrested a man on Thursday morning following the incidents.

John Shooter, aged 29, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of robbery, four offences of shop theft, one count of assaulting a police officer and one offence of using threatening behaviour.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (19 March 2022) and was remanded in custody. He is next due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (24 March 2022).

Detective Inspector Paul Lefford, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The force takes these types of offences extremely seriously. A suspect was in custody within a very short time after these offences and as a result of some great joint work between our front line response officers, neighbourhood policing teams and our specialist robbery team.

“I’m pleased a man has been charged and placed before the courts in connection with these serious offences. Robbery can have a lasting impact on its victims. I’d like to reassure people that we investigate all reports and will always do everything we can to get justice for victims.”
