Milkman violently assaulted and his milk float stolen

Two teenagers have been arrested after a milkman was assaulted and his milk float stolen.

Officers were first alerted to reports of an assault and a van being stolen in Arnold Road, Basford, shortly before 4am this morning (Thursday 17 March).

While attending the first scene, police then received a further call of a van colliding with a wall in Tewskbury Drive, Basford, at around 4.05am.

Quick police work and investigative enquiries then lead officers to locate two suspects and arrest them a short time after receiving the second call.

The victim received injuries to his head, leg and back and remains in hospital being treated for his injuries.

The suspects aged 17 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and drink driving.

Both remain in custody as enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Andy Buxton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an unprovoked and violent assault on a man who was just going about his day job and has left him in hospital being treated for his injuries.

“Thanks to the quick work by officers on the scene minutes after the reports we were able to arrest two suspects shortly afterward. Reports like these will be met with a very quick police response and we hope these quick arrests reassures the public of just how seriously we take such incidents.

“Thankfully the victim’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

“Enquiries are continuing into finding out exactly what happened, but I would ask anyone who may have CCTV footage or heard anything this morning to come forward and speak to us as it may help us with our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 54 of 17 March 2022, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
