More homes approved for bus depot development

Dozens more homes have been approved for a development on the site of a former bus depot.

Broxtowe Borough Council has passed plans for a further 93 homes on the Barton Quarter site in Chilwell.

Plans by developer Stockbridge were first approved in 2017 with outline planning permission for 221 homes.

The land, between High Road and Queen’s Road West, was formally the bus depot and offices for the transport company Bartons.

The new plans, for phase two of the site will comprise of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes and 138 parking spaces.

At the centre of the development there will be a “formal garden square” which will connect to smaller courtyards.

Planning documents say the plans will be an “exemplar development that displays an architecture of traditional character with great attention to detainland visual character”.

The documents stated: “The Barton Quarter proposal is a key development in Chilwell and Beeston creating new high-quality housing and public spaces.

“The vision that has now been enacted in Phase 1 and will be continued through the delivery of Phase 2 is to redevelop a brownfield site into a socially inclusive, attractive, sustainable and enjoyable new place.

“The vision that has now been enacted in Phase 1 and will be continued through the delivery of Phase 2 is to redevelop a brownfield site into a socially inclusive, attractive, sustainable and enjoyable new place.”

Prince Charles’ charity, The Prince’s Foundation, is overseeing the design and development of the project.
