Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a 32-year-old woman died in a collision in Selston last night.
Police were called to the Alfreton Road at 6.23pm last night (Saturday 25 July) to reports of a crash involving a van and a woman. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four men and a woman, aged between 21 and 46, were arrested at the scene in connection with the events surrounding the woman’s death and remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Richard Monk, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a serious incident which has resulted in a woman losing her life.
“Her family is now being supported by specially trained officers.
“While we have made arrests as part of our investigation, we are working relentlessly to establish what happened.
“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“We believe that there was a fight in Alfreton Road prior to the collision that killed the woman and we are currently reviewing a number of lines of enquiry as part of our investigation.
“Any information you have, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, could play a role in helping us understand what happened.”
Inspector Simon Riley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is an incredibly concerning incident for the community.
“It is thought to have been an isolated incident, however, we have increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance and address any concerns local residents may have.
“I’d encourage anyone who does have any concerns to speak to one of our officers or call 101.”
