The Environment Agency has announced a new flood warning service for the Retford community.
The new flood warning will help 651 properties at risk of flooding from Retford Beck.
The warning can be triggered by a new river level gauge on Retford Beck at Grove Lane. This gauging station provides the Environment Agency’s duty officers with live data to make informed decisions on the imminent risk of flooding.
Paul Lockhart, Area Flood and Coastal Risk Manager, said:
“We are very pleased to be able to provide a flood warning service to the Retford community.
“We know how devastating flooding can be for people, and this service will give them the vital time to take action to safeguard themselves and their property. We encourage everyone who is able to sign up to this free service.”
River levels on Retford Beck can be viewed in real time online by visiting the Retford Grove Lane river gauge page at check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk.
This additional tool complements the flood warning service by giving members of the public the ability to monitor current river levels, allowing them to make informed decisions on how and when to respond.
There will be a public drop-in session for residents and businesses affected by flooding on Wednesday, 4 December, 9am–12pm, at Retford Library.
