A new Lidl supermarket which is being opposed by its competitor Tesco will soon be considered by Nottingham councillors.
If approved it will be built on the site of the former Chronos Richardson plastics factory off Belconnen Road, where 62 new homes have also been proposed by housing developer MyPad.
Plans have been submitted by Ms Julie White on behalf of Lidl GB Ltd.
The final decision will be made by councillors at a Nottingham City Council planning meeting on December 21.
Planning documents state: “It is a former industrial site which has since been cleared and remains vacant.
“The site allocation requires the delivery of 63-87 dwellings.
“The site has been subdivided to form two application sites, this application for a Lidl food store, and a concurrent application for residential development.
“The proposals for the store have been amended, resulting in a slight decrease in the floor area of the store. As amended, the store would have a gross internal area of 1,895 [square meters].
“The car park would provide 100 standard spaces, 4 disabled, 9 parent and child and 4 with Electric Vehicle Charging points.”
The site is near to Nottingham City Hospital.
In total 109 neighbouring properties were notified of the proposed development by letters sent in April, with 10 representations received.
Nine of these supported the development, according to planning documents.
One objector raised an issue with the potential loss of trees as well as concern that the store “will result in a parking free for all on surrounding streets”.
A representative for supermarket giant Tesco has also opposed the plans on two occasions, claiming the site should be used for housing.
However, the applicant is arguing it is assumed the objection is down to “commercial reasons”.
“The loss of land that could otherwise be developed for housing is acknowledged, but the number of dwellings to be provided on the remainder of the allocation (62) is considered to be acceptable,” the developer says.
It is anticipated around 40 jobs will be created and plans have been recommended for approval.
