Meeting for the first time in-person since the start of the pandemic, the Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire and Rescue Authority met today at Gedling Civic Centre for its Annual General Meeting.
Made up of six Nottingham City Councillors and 12 Nottinghamshire County Councillors, the Authority makes decisions on key issues such as strategy, policy and the budget for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Following the recent local elections for Nottinghamshire County Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), there have been a number of changes to the membership of the Authority which will see eleven new Councillors and a change in the PCC.
At the meeting, County Councillor Michael Payne, was re-elected as Chair and City Councillor Toby Neal was re-elected as Vice Chair.
Appointments were also made to the Authority’s sub-committees, which provide specific scrutiny to important areas such as finance, human resources, service delivery and senior appointments.
The new Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Caroline Henry, was welcomed to the meeting and given full voting rights.
John Buckley, Chief Fire Officer of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “I would like to extend a warm welcome to all members of the Fire Authority, both new and old.
“I look forward to continuing my work with the Fire Authority to support the communities we serve.”
Commenting on his re-election, Councillor Michael Payne, Chair of the Nottinghamshire Fire Authority, said he would “continue to work collegiality across political parties to deliver the best outcomes for communities.”
The Authority is made up of 6 councillors from Nottingham City Council and 12 councillors from Nottinghamshire County Council.
